¡Bienvenidos!
Hello and welcome to the website for the Embassy of the Republic of Argentina in New Zealand.
The principal objective of this website is to provide those Argentine Nationals thinking of coming to New Zealand, those that are on their way and those already in this country, with the most up to date information relevant to their stay. This site is also designed to help those New Zealanders looking to do the same but in Argentina.
New Zealand and Argentina established international relations in 1964 and since this time both countries have contributed to the construction of a dynamic and tight relationship. It has come a long way and has a bright future ahead of it, and we hope this will be reached with the presence of Argentines and New Zealanders happy to grow this friendship.
We are sure that this website will prove useful to those who use it and a good communication tool to the wider community. We aim to keep the information current so that people in New Zealand, of whichever nationality, are kept up to date with information on the activities and events happening around the country either organised by this Embassy or other parties showcasing Argentine culture in some way.
As in any new project, feedback is always helpful. We therefore welcome your comments as to things you like about this website, things we may have missed or could do better. Please email your feedback to info_enzel@mrecic.gov.ar – your cooperation is appreciated.

May Revolution Celebrations
For the second year in a row the Autumn sunshine was out in full force to greet the Argentine community in Wellington as they met at the Official Residence in Karori in commemoration of the 201st anniversary of the May Revolution.
A good sized crowd gathered at the entrance to hear a few words spoken by the Acting Head of Mission Mr. Pedro Marotta and then to sing the anthem whilst the flag was raised. Everyone then had the opportunity to move indoors to share a glass of Argentine vino tinto and enjoy some traditional food of empanadas, choripan and arroz con leche.
It was great to see so many of the Argentine community there to commemorate the day with their families, fellow compatriots and kiwi partners and friends.
To see photos of the event held on the 28th of May, please visit the link to our photo album here.

Just as may organisations are using social networks to keep in contact with their communities, the Embassy has created a page where people can keep up to date with events and news related to Argentina and Argentine citizens in New Zealand.
If you would like to be able to receive these updates, you can click on the facebook logo above. More recently we have photos there of the visit by our Argentine 7s team to Wellington's Children's Hospital and their participation in the 7s Parade through central Wellington.

Our sincere condolences go out to New Zealand
As most people will be aware, yesterday the 24th of November at approximately 7pm, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, the Rt. Hon John Key, announced to this nation that as a result of the second explosion at Pike River Mine at 2.30pm that same day, there could be no survivors following another devastating blast.
Tragically, the result of this event at Pike River Mine in Greymouth was not what everyone, here and around the world, had been hoping for. The entire New Zealand population has been affected, either directly or indirectly, by this terrible episode. As Argentineans, we direct our thoughts, feelings of solidarity and prayers to the families of the miners, the Greymouth Community and those affected in Australia, Great Britain and South Africa who also lost family and countrymen.
May those miners, the fathers, brothers, sons, uncles, friends and colleagues of many of us or our friends, rest in peace.
Kia Kaha

With our deepest sympathies from New Zealand
Argentina has begun its mourning, as have Argentine citizens around the world, as the tremendously sad news spreads of the passing of ex-President Néstor Carlos Kirchner on Wednesday 27th of October.
South American Heads of State have started to arrive in Buenos Aires to pay respects to the ex-President and to his widow, the current President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. The President of Bolivia, Evo Morales and Ecuador's Rafael Correa, were the first leaders of the region to arrive in Buenos Aires to attend the funeral of Néstor Kirchner.
Also expected to give their last farewells are the Presidents of Uruguay, Mr. José Mujica, and Venezuela, Mr. Hugo Chavez, Mr. Sebastian Pinera of Chile, Mr. Fernando Lugo of Paraguay Mr. Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia, and Mr Luiz Lula de Silva of Brazil and other regional leaders.
The turmoil unleashed by the sudden death of the former President was also reflected by the thousands of people who stayed overnight in an emotional vigil in the Plaza de Mayo. With the passing of the hours since Néstor Kirchner’s death, Argentines are continuing to flood into the central city to pay their last respects at the Patriots Hall of the Casa Rosada, where his body has been laid out for visitation.
The tribute to the ex-President will take place in the Casa Rosada until midday Friday, when his remains will be transferred to his home province of Santa Cruz.
Néstor Carlos Kirchner will be remembered as the President who reduced unemployment by 4.5% and who achieved industrial growth averaging 8% during his term, a President who more than doubled exports and, above all, whose policies brought nearly 15 million compatriots out of poverty. He was also a fervent defender of human rights and social justice.
The Embassy has opened a book of condolences where the diplomatic representatives of other countries accredited in New Zealand will send their messages to the President and the people of Argentina.
The book is also open to Argentine residents living in New Zealand who may wish to send their condolences. It can be signed on Friday 29th of October and Monday 1st of November between 10am and 1pm and 3pm and 5pm. For those that cannot make it to the Embassy's offices and would like to send a message to be included in the book, one can do so by emailing info@arg.org.nz .

INTI
From the 9th until the 15th of October, a delegation from the National Institute of Industrial Technology (INTI), visited New Zealand in order to generate contacts with the most important research institutes in the country, learn more about their organization and structure and at the same time gain an understanding of their work practices to seek possible areas of mutual interest.
Dr. Graciela Muset, Engineer Hernán Murno and Marcela Cordara made up the Delegation as they visited Auckland (University of Auckland), Hamilton (Waikato Innovation Park, AgResearch and Fonterra), and Wellington, where they met with various Ministries (MoRST, MFAT, MAF and CRI). At the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Victoria Dr. Muset gave a talk entitled "Technological innovations and the relationship between New Zealand and Latin America." The visit was topped off by a trip to Palmerston North where contact was made with AgResearch and the Riddet Institute.
We, at the Embassy, believe that the variety of meetings proved most productive and therefore hope they will serve to strengthen the ties between the two countries, generating exchanges and further benefits for both Argentina and New Zealand.
