3 STEPS TO CLAIM GST (VAT) REFUND ON GOODS.

Foreigns visitors are entitled to claim the tax refund on their goods purchases when they take them home.
The tax refund can be claim through the company "Global Refund". The VAT rate in Argentina is 21 %. This tax is basically similar to New Zealand’s GST.
The "Global Refund" cheque must be stamped by Customs at departure.
The refund amount is the VAT less an administration fee.
At the shops with the "Global Refund TAX FREE SHOPPING" sign (over 130,000 stores worldwide), the tourist can claim for the refund cheque.
When leaving the country, the tourists must show their purchases, receipts and passport to customs officials and have their "Global Refund" cheques stamped. Customs personnel are well informed of the "Global Refund" system.
Tourists have several choices: immediate cash at the nearby cash "Refund Office", direct crediting of a chosen credit card or bank account or a bank cheque sent to a chosen address.

Many stores will accept American Dollars. The rate is 1,00 US$ = 3,00 $ (pesos).
Banks are regularly open through Mondays to Fridays from 10 am to 3 pm.

Methods of Payment
The US Dollar is generally accepted, and foreign currency can be exchanged in banks and authorised bureaus.
All Major Credit Cards are accepted.
There can be difficulties changing traveller’s cheques outside of Buenos Aires.

Tips
It is customary to leave 10% of your bill in cafes and restaurants, and also to tip doormen, porters, ushers in cinemas, etc.
